This type of mortgage varies interest rate up or down at certain intervals. ARM's vary depending on the market but can be 1 year, 3 years, 5 years or 10 years. Changes in the rate are tied to a financial index such as a one-year Treasury Note or LIBOR. An ARM may offer a low beginning discounted interest rate, this rate may go up after a certain time.
